"Soroor Memory Series" was a pilot program offered by Dr. Zahra Moussavi and Ms. Mari Tere Garcia; and was run at the Riverview Health Center.
This first program was offered to people of aged 60 and above, with concerns for their memory but still functioning and living independently.
Out of the 4 hours of the classes per week, one hour was dedicated to learn about memory, how it is formed, where in the brain it might be stored as well as brain functions in general; two hours were dedicated to memory exercises and techniques to improve memory and one hour is dedicated to teach a dancing that requires practicing the balance system.
The program was offered through Lifelong Learning of University of Mantioba.
The program was named "Soroor Memory Series" in honor of Dr. Moussavi's mother, whos name was "Soroor" meaning "joy" in Persian; she passed away in January of 2013 after 14 years of battle with Alzheimer's disease.
